Need some serious help

Okay well I just got another computer from a friend and this one is insanely screwed up. Wont boot into windows normally. In safe mode the everything disappears except the top and the bottom that say safe mode and the version. This only happens at times. No program will open in safe mode, tried running Combofix and HJT but wouldn't do anything. The CPU usage is always at 100% until I manually close one of the many svchost.exe. That is the process that is running at high 90's all the time. I had to remove the hard drive and put it into my computer that is uninfected. But I'm not sure what I should do now. I know it's probably a bad idea to put the infected hard drive into my computer but I think I can fight off whatever tries to attack me. There was no windows disk included (freakin compaq) but there was a recovery disk included. Except it says it is not for this computer when i did it in the original. Some advice? Right now im just running virus scans on it and I've removed say around 8 so far that AVG Resident Shield has identified. Is there a way HJT on a slave hard drive? If not any other help here?

I would also run disk check, as there may be some errors on the hard drive such as corrupt system files, that are preventing you from booting up successfully. You can also run spyware removal programs in addition to AV, such as Ad-Aware, which may help remove that nasty adware.

Ok well i have uniblue spyeraser running through it and AVG took care of some. But the ones im coming across now cannot be deleted by AVG. (The resident shield picks them up as Uniblue scans.) Ill do a disk check in a bit.
About the HJT log is this possible?

I'm not to sure about a hijackthis, but i think combo fix will work.

Try running combo fix and post the log here.

What is the drive letter in your computer D:?

It is drive D and i have a 3rd HDD as well. It found a shitload of virus's but now the computer wont even boot into safe mode when i put the HDD in the original. I think i need to reformat, how can i do that without an xp install disk.

Hi, let's scan with ComboFix to get more details.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

If it's just an usual virus problem, no need to reformat.

Thats the problem I cant run combofix because the computer wont start anymore. I can put the HDD back into my main comp but will combofix still work right if its a slave drive?

Well its running good as a slave but i need it to run as the primary in the other computer. I have tried loading windows in the other comp but it wont load, neither will safe mode.

The log is clean. I don't think it's a virus problem this time, then.

I'm not sure what exactly would be the problem, but something's dead in your computer for sure.
You could post your thread on Operating Systems, describing your problem once again.

I'm not sure what you expect to see out of those logs, but logs from HijackThis and ComboFix on the working PC aren't going to tell you much about the slave drive.

denverbronco26, as your system isn't booting at all, most options require a working Windows disk. If this PC has the same version of Windows as your own one (e.g. both Windows XP Home OEM), you can use your own Windows disk along with the CD Key on the side or bottom of the damaged system. Also, a number of Compaq systems use recovery partitions instead of giving you the disk. In this case you need to hit a key (e.g. F10 or F11) on bootup to access the restore options, which would allow you to restore to factory settings. What model is the system?

If neither of these are viable options, what stage are you able to get to when booting into either Safe or Normal mode? What error message do you receive, if any?

I receive no error message just as it leaves the initial compaq screen it goes black then returns to the compaq screen again. I do not have a windows cd with mine as it was custom built when i bought it way back when at a flea market. The busted one had a recovery disk with it but it says its not for that computer. Im not sure if this is an error or if it is actually the wrong cd, because the person im fixing it for has 2 compaq pc's.

The last option i can think of is downloading a legit copy offline as someone stated in a previous thread, and using the code on the pc. Problem is my CD drive is busted, as i have listed in one of the other forums so i cannot burn a cd. Also i do not know of a site i could get a legit ISO of the XP Disk. Any ideas?

Due to Microsoft's licensing restrictions, it is not possible to legally download an ISO of Windows XP as far as I am aware.

You can download an ISO OS file as long as it has no been tampered with and that you use your own serial key, but you have to make sure you have right version of XP.

Can you post me a link to an untampered one of Windows XP Home Edition, I dont want to download a virus
