Need some suggestions

Looking for suggestions on a laptop for a friend(going to college). He needs the laptop for taking notes and doing reports/similar things. My guess is that he won't be doing any serious gaming on it.

Since he's taking notes I'm guessing something in the 15" range would be good. The budget is around $700.

I suggest you Toshiba from the above two.
But both are good, but they only have 5400RPM HDD.

The Toshiba Satellite linked above is very nice for its price and comes with 64 bit windows so you can upgrade the Ram later down the track if you find the system needs it.
