im upgrading my motherboard and cpu..i am going to be doing dvd recoding, downloading and ripping and internet surfing and maybe some web design with dream weaver or use auto cad...my budget is around 350 - 400 dollars and im thinking of either an amd athlon 64 3700, with a gigabyte board that supports all that i need or an intel pentium 4 641 ht technology, im not sure what board...i need an agp slot because i just invested 200 bucks for an ati all in wonder before i know what i know now about pci e, any suggestions on the right cpu and good brand of board would be great...should i get a pentium d 930 or 940... cause the price is about the same as the other 2?

the problem is ... if you can get a motherboard that supports AGP... with a processor like that
anyway i think you can't get the athlon 64 3700 (939) due to the lack of AGP support

ASRock has a pretty good mobo (based on reviews I've read). It features full support for AGP8X and PCI-E 16X. And they have an addon card which features the AM2 socket that you can get for it, if you want it.

get the 930... you wont see a very large performance increase between that and the 940. if you think its worth the money though, by all means get the 940. any motherboard will do fine, it all depends on your needs. most motherboards feature anything the average user might need besides maybe a dialup modem which i have no need for.
