Need tablet to edit shared Word documents on my Windows PC

I am writing a book in MS Word on my desktop PC. I have a family member who will be assisting me in the editing process. For convenience and mobility, they are wanting to get a new tablet. They need to be able to access the documents containing my chapters, and edit them on their tablet. What kind of tablet would be best suited for this project?

If I recall correctly the surface tablets have office included. They run off of windows 8. The pro version is full windows 8.

I believe they run Windows RT, which I'm very wary of. The Surface Pro runs the full version of Windows, but is more like a laptop. It's more than double the price of most tablets.

Not to mention that the Pro doesn't come with Office.

You should be able to get an Android tablet of some sort and use an office suite app that allows editing of MS Word files. There are several out there that cost around $15. One that I like that is free is called Kingsoft Office: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wps.moffice_eng&hl=en. There may be similar apps available for the iPad but I'm not familiar with what they may be.

If your family member will be doing a lot of typing in order to edit your work, then they will probably want a Bluetooth keyboard since the on-screen keyboards of a tablet don't work well for typing more than a few words.

It is $1000 when I was looking at one. It is a nice idea but the price is steep. Could get a real nice laptop for $1000.

Just get a decent ASUS Transformer. They're about $300. Then get a keyboard dock for another $90. They have Polaris Office that can open and edit word documents.

Any android tablet will do, then all you need is a free program called kingsoft office very similar is look and feel to office 2003 and is full comaptible with microsoft office docs.

Kingsoft is available for all the big platforms including windows, i use it on both windows and my android devices instead of wasting money on micro office.

I am a Android person but I have tried to use any of the word processors listed above and none of these really work all that great. When I have played on Windows RT I cannot tell the difference between Office for RT or Standard Windows other then RT is missing outlook. When writing papers for college the only other device I have found to work as well is my chromebook with google Docs.
