So I have a small business, and part of that business if providing a computer to elementarty schools to save photos on. I purchased 16 used Compaq DeskPro Small Form Factor computers used. They are all P2 450mhz, 128mb with 6.2gb hard drives. I also purchased new 10 gig hard drives, and would like to add them to the systems. That way the files can be saved on the main system drive that came with the machine, and I can set up and auto backup to the secondary 10 gig drive.
I open up the case, and it never occured to me that there wouldn't be space or a way to hook up the new HD. I'm so used to builiding my computers in a mid sized tower sytle case with ide ribbon cables that have two connectors on them etc. So inside, there is a hd, a cd-rom, and a floppy drive. The floppy drive looks like my best bet. I can sacrifice that to make room for the new hd.
So my questions... Am I able to run my new HDs off the IDE ribbon for the floppy that goes straight to the board? and what about power... the power for the floppy is piggy'd off the current hd, but the wires are a smaller guage and the connector is obviously different. Is there an adaptor to go from the small floppy connnector to the larger one for hard disks?
Any ideas? School year is starting and I need to get these 16 machines upgraded and at the sites by October 1.
