k guys. this is sort of the type of setup i want. looking at the kind of thing i have in mind, do you have any suggestions how i can get this down to 700ish? i know intel is going to be doing some price cuts on the core2duos and i read that the E6600 was predicted to get down to 220ish. any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh and i dont really know anything about RAM. do i need 2 gigs? i just sort of threw something in there. any help would be great.

definately keep the 2 gigs especially at that price

here are my suggestions:
1) go with a centurion 5 case
2)go with a XClio 450w PSU
3)Gigabyte DS3
4)E6400

OC it and you are good for 100+ less

i have never OC'd before so you think it would be pretty easy to get the E6400 up to 2.4 or so?

and i dont really see the difference between the gigabyte DS3 and the S3

You don't really need to have 2GB of RAM to get by even for most gaming. If you're trying to save a few bucks RAM might be a good place to cut back because you can easily buy another gig and install it in 5 minutes down the road if you want to. For what it's worth I was checking my system specs on my second monitor while playing Rainbow Six: Vegas last night and the highest "physical memory usage" was 1.08 GB of RAM at once.

Alright, This would do the job, however, I had to make some cuts because 700$ for a C2D isn't enough to get all the topline parts.

$695 Not bad. That system is great for the money, I have something similar, and it handles everything I throw at it. But if you have a little more to spend, I'd upgrade your PSU so you can OC your 6300 into the 2.5-3.0 ghz area and great HUGE performance out of it.

Good luck.
