Need to Quiet down the system

yet another problem...

My old computer was always so loud... but its only a minitower(or around that size) only 2 50mm fans and the cpu and psu fans...
im almost positive that it has to do with the CPU because a lot of times my computer wouldn't even boot up it was so hot...
Should i buy some good thermal grease and reapply that (keep the fan)...
or just buy another fan and thermal grease...
(im ganna get new thermal grease no matter what.. just wondering really if i should get a new CPU fan or not...)

heat sink fans are cheap enough these days may aswell buy a new cpu cooler. I'm assuming its still the stock heat sink/fan from when the machine was purchased also wouldn't hurt getting a small tube of AS5 to use with the new Heat sink fan.

If you are trying to quieten the system, you need to find which fans are making the noise. It's more likely to be the PSU or case fans because they are on the outside of the case. The CPU fan may make more noise if the bearings are wearing out.

You can see if you have a temperature issue by checking the CPU temperature with a MB utility or Speedfan.
