I need a new motherboard that will be able to run with the following:

AMD Athlon 64 FX53
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Corsair 2x512 DDR SDRAM DDR 400

the old motherboard was a ASUS SK8V Socket 940, but I can't find it on Newegg anymore.

I'd like it to be from Newegg.com, as I'm ordering a few more things from there as well.

Thanks a lot.

I find that rather curious that you are trying to run a Socket 939 type cpu on a server type board. The FX series processors are geared more for higher performance like seen on gaming builds. The Socket 940s run the Opteron server type cpus there. A good Asus model board used here that will support upto the FX60 is the A8N-SLI model The A8N-SLI Premium is found at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131540

haha, wow. thanks a lot man. I guess i had no idea what I was buying.

does this mean I'll get quite a boost in performance from my CPU now that I'm purchasing the right motherboard?

again, thanks a lot.

Asus is one of the best rated makes overall for many reasons. The specifications are generally higher on their models then seen on some like Abit, DFI, and several others. Gigabyte and MSI are close competitors there while Abit a good name of it's own always offers less then the others.

Unfortunately the Asus model seen there was the best of the three newegg currently has instock at the moment. Apparently they "shopped out" for the holidays and a wait for restocking is another idea if you have some time. But you will definitely need a Socket 939 type board for the model cpu there.

There are 939 type Opteron model cpus as well as the 940s. Always look over the specifications before buying anything for comparison. That will save you from a world of hurt there fast! !!! :P

the FX53 was a 940/939 processor.... not just 939... his processor will NOT work in a 939 mobo

http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADAFX53DEP5AS is a strictly 939 model. But of course you wouldn't know that. The details on a 940 model are seen at http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADAFX53CEP5AT

Presently there are no 940 boards found at newegg. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ct_details/104-4331929-9036752?ie=UTF8&seller=

You will have to wait for them to restock or pay more somewhere else.

so your gonna tell me that the FX53 is strictly a 939 processor, yet you proved yourself wrong by posting a link to the 940-pin version of it?

You are the one stating that there is no model specific for 939 boards! Explain that one!

No point arguing with PCeye, its like trying to catch your dog with its tail on fire and it ends up burning your house down:cool:

You'll have to excuse the error in simply forgetting which models offered both 939 and 940 models. Like anyone else I had to go back to the comparison chart seen at http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/Default.aspx But as you can see some are more interested in tearing up threads then looking a good board for a replacement there.

You certainly proved that point.

Show me the motherboard you pointed out, hum, NONE

I'm sorry but I can't seem to see which board will work, and which one won't.

Can one of you just post a link to a suitable board that will run the PC. It's no longer really for gaming, I gave it to my dad for his business computer at home.

Thanks a lot.

if thas the case, then i'd suggest selling the FX on ebay and buying a cheaper 3700+ for 939... it will run you about $100 total compared to the $200 for JUST the 940 motherboard...

but then i'd still have to buy a motherboard, so to save me all that trouble, I just need a motherboard that will run with the FX53.

Thanks

you'll be spending ALOT more money... and last time I checked, the 3700+ is better then the FX53 anyways
