my computer came with a 50 GB hard drive, at the time i thought wow thats tons (2003) but now its a game of clear and addd clear and add...although im using ccleaner and other programs to clear data but...i cant always win this constant battle...i have a few extra ATA\SATA 15 pin cables in the motherboard but i need a HD that allows those cables and something in the range of maybe 500GB or 1TB depending on price...

alot of new games im installing i have to install on the laptop and maybe ill wait untill this laptop is on it last legs and get the hd from it...i dunno

does anyone know any HD's or reccomend any or some SSD's that i could buy??

have a good day!!

What are the rest of your system specs? I'm curious, because if your computer is from 2003 and only has a 60GB HD I can't imagine it would be able to play current games.

ATA (IDE) has been long since abandoned, SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3) is the current standard. Also, which operating system are you using?

I agree with WRXGuy1...
If your computer is from 2003. you will not be able to play the newest games and especially not on the best graphic quality level.
Of course we don't know if you have upgraded your CPU and GPU since then.If you did then you will probably be able to play them...unless if your motherboard sucks lol.

So anyway...these days you CAN STILL find big IDE drives, but they are a LOT more expensive than SATA drives for a simple reason:

IDE drives are barely being produced today. They still do,but very very very rarely. The biggest IDE drive that was made was a 750 GB one.
While the SATA drives are being made on a daily basis,a lot of people are buying them and that results in a smaller price. :)

So...you can either buy a PATA (IDE) drive and connect it directly to your motherboard OR buy a IDE to SATA converter and a SATA drive. The second option will probably be cheaper.Converters are like 3 to 5 dollars.Sometimes 8 or 9...depending where you buy it from and SATA drives...well...you can buy a big SATA drives for about 50 dollars...sometimes less sometimes more...again depending where you buy it from.

So!

Here are 3 links.First link for big IDE/PATA drive, second link for IDE/PATA to SATA converter (and even vice versa) and third link for big SATA drive (all 3 things are brand new of course):

Price: 69.37$
Shipping: Depending on your location
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEAGATE-ST5...Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item5aede35157

Price: 3.60$
Shipping: Free
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2in1-Two-Se...t=US_Drive_Cables_dapters&hash=item25810e942d

Price: 46.99$
Shipping: Depending on your location

So as you can see...buying a converter and a SATA drive is cheaper.

NOTE 1: I am sure you can find all of the above 3 things for even a cheaper price on eBay.I was just too lazy to find the cheapest price for all 3 things since I would be searching for some time then. :D

NOTE 2: Pay attention on item bidding also. That can provide you to get a good drive for so freaking cheap price if you win.So if you wanna win it,be sure to check the bid list for the item every 10 minutes...especially during the last 3 hours before bidding ends and be sure to always be the highest bidder. :D
Here is a good deal for example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seagate-Bar...Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item233b32ebb4

So as you can see it is a used Seagate 500GB drive, but looks and works like new.And guess what!
The beginning price is just 10 freaking dollars!
You still have 2 days and 23 hours to win it.And as you can see there is already 1 person (bidder) who bid on the item by giving it a price of 10.00$.
So now YOU (if you wanna win it) must enter 10.50$ or more (but don't enter more if you don't have to lol).
So hurry up and bid on it and keep checking to make sure you are the highest bidder all until the end...UNLESS if in the meantime some crazy bidder comes and enters something like 200$...in that case screw it and find a better bidding context for a HDD. :D

Again NOTE that you might be able to find even a better cheaper bidding on the HDD.This is the one I just found...I was too lazy to search the ebay for better price.But...10.50$ is just freaking cheap for a 500GB SATA drive.

But do what I do...FIRST take a look at ALL the drives on the eBay including their price, shipping and bidding (if any). After that take the one which is the cheapest for you.
Just be sure to pay attention on the item condition, item description and seller's feedback!
Searching eBay to find the BEST DEAL AS POSSIBLE will take some time, but it's worth it.Once you click the PAY NOW button to pay it with PayPal,you will relax and say to yourself:

"It took a whole day of eBay searching, but I found a great drive for the lowest price I possibly could and I spent so freaking small amount of money!!!Hmmm...what should I do with the rest of the money for which I thought I would need it for the drive?Oh I know!Let's buy a new GPU!"

Or buy something else or save the money. It's up to you. :D

So anyway...that is how I do things.I recommend you to do it too if you want to spend SUPER LITTLE AMOUNT of money for a great drive! :good:

Cheers!
