Need wireless router advice!!

Hey guys!
I am going to pick up my wife's new laptop tonight at Circuit City and need advice on a wireless router. Preferably from there since I am getting an extra 10% off with my purchase.
I have about $100 budgeted for it.
I don't know anything about these, but I am wanting to get the best bang for the buck.
It will be used for my desktop and laptop only. My house is about 1300sf and I would like for it to reach to the other end and maybe on the front porch without a problem.
Also, is there anything else I will need to buy for it other than the wireless router itself in order to have my destop recieve the sinal as well?
Thanks in advance for any info and links to a product at Circuit City.
Thanks!!!
Micah

If you want to receive from your Destop and Laptop, make sure the router accepts the signal. For example if your Desktop has a Wireless B card and your new Laptop has a G, get a router that has a B/G transmitter. I would stay Linksys personally, but dont spend more than $60 (reg price). The transmission point for your house should be the most open area, and center part of the house.. probably a living room.

Does your desktop have a wireless card?

I also would suggest linksys. But I would suggest to not connect your desktop wirelessly if you can. Your modem is probably next to your desktop so that is where your wireless router will go. Instead of using wireless just use an ethernet cable.

Buffalo all the way! I've owned a Buffalo WHR-G54(gave to my grandparents) and Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. Wonderful routers for their price. Plus the performance is slightly higher than similar Linksys routers. Oh yes, and DD-WRT works like a charm on both of them. That firmware has an astonishing amount of new options!

Oh, and a side note, my dad purchased a WHR-G125(the newest router in Buffalo's lineup) All in all, it's a nice router, but it's obviously made to be much cheaper than their previous models. On top of that, the reception is not terrific and speeds can be sluggish. I'd strongly suggest one of the "older" models.

Thanks for the advice guys. I decided to go with the Linksys for $49.99 at Walmart (I get a disc. there too ;) ) Hopefully I can get this thing up and going today.
I was wanting to get my desktop wireless as well because I wanted it out of my living room and there isn't a phone line where I was going to put it. But, it doest have a wireless card. May still do that later.
Thanks for all the advice!
Micah
