Basically this is what ima be running, i just need a estimate one what psu to use

intel quad core 6600
asus 680i nvidia sli
1x 200 gb sata drive
1x dvd/cd r
4gb dual-channel corsair xms2 (4x 1gb sticks)
windows xp pro / AND vista ultimate 32 bit on seperate partition
thermaltake 775 socket cpu fan and heatsink
and my case has 4 fans built in so i'll be running those 4 passive along with cpu fan

(not going to use this now but ill be adding)
8800 gts 512 mb

Single card, with no SLI I take it? Do you have a set budget? The Corsair HX520 is a good choice.

By the way, there is no 8800GTS 512MB. Only 320MB or 640MB.

hmmm, personally imo, i think that putting a 8800gts with 4gb and a Q6600 processor is a really bad choice. instead of buying 4gb of ram you could (if you were planning on buying the GTS) buy 8800gtx in SLI.

Master Mind

ehh didnt know it wasnt 512 guess ill go for the higher one then

hey you sure 520 watts would support all this stuff?

and about the ram. i have no budget so i just decided to basically go as good as i can.

i was thinking 2x 4gb dl-ch meaning 8 gigs but i like the xms2's better

anyways i was thinking about a 700+ watt power supply.

from what i understand quad core + 6+ fans + all that other stuff blah blah would be about 700+ am i wrong?

I've seen my current PSU (the 620Watt one of the one Ceewi1 suggested) running 3 8800GTX's (2 in SLI and 1 for 2 extra monitors) running 3dmark06
not to forget, the Corsair psu's are rated at 50degree C, usually psu's are rated at 20 or 30 degree C (meaning, in their normal operating temp, the output power would be lower) another plus of the corasir ones is the 5 year warranty :) ofcourse you could get the HX620Watt Corsair (50Amp on the +12v @ 50 degree C ) but for what you posted the HX520W is more than enough :)

If you're planning on SLI you should most definitely get a larger unit, but for a single card system the HX520 is more than sufficient.

Ultra PSU's sucks i've seen a lot of them burn mobos along with everything they have connected and why do you think they're giving it "away", anyway look at ceewi1 signature that will give you a hint on what will happen if you buy a "free" or under 30$ psu lol

Pointless having more than 2GB ram windows XP only supports 2GB max. Vista supports 16GB ram but those Vista games are a long way off and older ones hate it. More ram won't improve over 2GB as games use 1-2GB. Everyones talking about 500watt needed for the latest graphics cards 480watt will just cope depending on what othere drives you add and if you OC it. Get a Tagan PSU their good quality and show their crusing wattage and their peak wattage on the label and box. Get much higher wattage for adding two 640 MB cards.

overkill on wattage, underkill on amps. 29amps on the 12v rail for a 600watt PSU is VERY weak. Plus, it's not exactly a great brand.
That's the first generation X-Finity 600W. The second generation X-Finity (the one in the link) has dual 18+20A rails for a total +12V@35A. Quite sufficient for his system.

Youngyear built X-Connect? They had enormous problems with one release of the X-Connect, but I don't see it as a reason to claim that the entire product line is bad. Especially since Ultra haven't used Youngyear for quite some time.

why do you think they're giving it "away"
It's now an older model, which is being discontinued, plus the fact that a lot of people fail to claim on the rebate. The V-Series 500W are free after rebate every few months, and they somehow end up making money off it. The X-Finity 600W is undoubtedly a better PSU than that. It was a $100+ PSU for quite some time.

here is a great choice for free

kind of overkill on the watts, but what the heck

Great deal there. It's obviously the older Wintech built, and the efficiency's a little low, but for free you really can't complain.
