Needing computer video help

So me and my moms boyfriend bought the same game, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. Now his computer will not run it, but weirdly it will run Crysis: Warhead. Now it will get through all the loading, then it will just stay on a black screen.

The req test said his shader and video card do not meet req's. So what would be a good but cheap ( Under 250$ and be able to get it from a local place ( Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) like futureshop, best buy, a-com, b-com and such) that will work and be good for him.

ATM he is running Windows XP, has 2-3 gigs of RAM, 450Watt power supply, a about 3year old or so PCI-Express AMD motherboard, and a decent processor I'd also assume, Now there are a few vidoe cards I was thinking of for example 9800GT or 9800GTX, neither of which I know the difference from.

Now if you need more info let me know and I can get it, now the power supply isn't that big of a deal, it's easy to go get a 500 or 520W one, but which one of those video cards, or any other suggestions such as Radeon, which is what he has right now, you may have.

In a bit I'll be posting more info when I get it about his exact info. Like his DxDiag info.

Also whats the diff from Direct X10 and X9? He is using 9 right now, will that change with a newer video card, and how hard are vidoe cards to install?

Ok if any more info is needed let me know.

Well the 9800GTX+ is the better card, either one EVGA or XFX are good brands. Its counter part in AMD/ATI is the 4850
