After Windows gets tired of errors and removes DMA from my ATA/IDE controller, how do I get it to go back away from PIO mode?

I have uninstalled the device, to no avail. I kinda remember being able to change it in the registry.

Please help.

See the CD/DVD101 (it was answered there)

To ensure your drives are operating in DMA mode: (1) Control Panel, (2) System, (3) Goto the Hardware Tab, (4) Device Manager, (5) IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, (6) Right Click on Primary IDE Channel --> Properties, (7) Goto the Advanced Settings Tab, Make sure both drop down boxes say 'DMA if Available', Click OK,(8) Right Click on Seconady IDE Channel --> Properties, (9) Goto the Advanced Settings Tab, Make sure both drop down boxes say 'DMA if Available', Click OK, (10) Reboot.

Tnx Praetor, but I know how to switch it, but Windows will not allow me to. DMA if available is selected, but it still reads PIO. Thats why I was looking for a way to change it in the registry.

Ok, I think that my secondary IDE controler is bad. I have tried a replacement cable, to no avail. I even moved devices around (switched from master to slave and so on. I even tried one drive at a time.
When trying to read a disk from either drive I get a Data Redundancy Error. There is a chance that the other cable is bad, I'm gonna get the multi-tester to check for continuity. What are your thoughts on the error?

Used this if you got driver on your secondary
1 go to START then Right click on MY COMPUTER select PROPERTIES
2 click on HARDWARE then DEVICE MANAGER
3 select IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS then right click on SECONDARY IDE and select uninstall.
4 REBOOT
windows should automaticly reinstall the secondary IDE and reset driver to DMA mode
hope this helps you out
