Nes pc

hey guys!

i've been researching for a while as to how people made their nes into pc's, but recently just hit a brick wall. most of the how to's are old and/or did things like chop off the bottom and back of their nes to make everything fit.

so! with your help i was hoping i could get closer to my dream of making a nes pc! i've got vague ideas as to what i want it to have and what i want it to do but... i need specifics and instruction! or atleast be pointed in the right direction.

i'm still in the dreaming/planning stages, with the research i've done i've collected that...

space will be an issue
cooling will be an issue
intel atom and mini itx mobo's will fit

and those break off to little itty bitty problems.

i'd LOVE to have the outside looking as stock as possible but if the benefit totally outweighs the sacrifice then i'll give it a hear.

your guy's input? thoughts? opinions?

dude! seriously?

you're going to have serious space and heat issues if you think you can keep everything inside tidy. besides, how will you plug stuff to it, if you don't have any openings?

i got some ideas from hommiedaclown over at avsforum, search for official zotac gf9300-d-e

There's no space issues if you use an ITX motherboard with an Atom CPU. Furthermore you can eliminate the power supply by using a picoPSU. If you think a Nintendo NES is small you should check out some of the book size ITX systems out there, they make NESes look like beasts.

they're both rather picture heavy so if you have a slow connection beware,

A little less then a year ago I tried hooking up my NES again and got it working pretty well with a replacement 72 pin connector, but the power supply was goin to crap (sometimes turned on sometimes didnt). So I sold all the controllers and games and gutted out the nes and now I use it as a little container for collecting movie receipts and sporting event tickets and the like.

hmm would you know where i could read up on that?

haha, i think the nes pc fad caught on, i can't find any broken neses on the cheap on ebay =/

would a better cpu change that statement? i guess i overestimated the intel atoms as i thought newer cpu's were better then older ones period.

if all you want is a mediocre system with an atom cpu and some value ram, then yeah, space is no issue.

but if you want a descent machine with duo core cpu, 4gb ram, beefy hdd, and dvd burner with connections for dvi, wi-fi antenna, e-sata, etc. and allow for heat dissipation then you're going to have to cut that mother up, there's just no way around it.

i've been busy with school so i'm moving slowly.

i had seen the first link, but not the second one.

it's all about what you want really. i want my machine to be accessible, like a normal computer. i don't mind cutting it out to be able to plug headphones, usb thingies, multiple monitors, external hdd, etc. or you can just throw everything in it, and forget about it. might as well use any old box for that :D

I dunno I saw a couple under $20 and plenty for less then $50 with the "buy it now" option. If you have an old system that doesnt work well you can buy that 72-pin connector and get the system working like new.

well keeping it as stock as possible isn't supposed to be a choke hold, but more of a challenge, it seems that it'll be pretty easy just chopping off the back and placing everything in.

just really looking to see what my options are and where the limits stand. like a quad core with 6gb ram may fit but it'll heat up too much and everything'll just clonk out.

i don't see any of those! i just see 5 when i search up broken nes :/ and i live in canada so shipping's hiked up..

is there a craigslist site for your city?

i posted an ad on CL asking for one, specify that it doesn't have to be working, but must look good. i got three responses in one day, ymmv.
