net send/ cmd help starting messenger service!!

hi, im new here, i was just wondering about the net send/ messenger service on windows xp.

when i send a message, net send * hi
it says the message has been sent but it doesnt apear on any computers, but then i type

net send wleavitt it doesnt send a message to user wleavitt.

it says

cannot find the alias.

the messenger service is not started yet it still says that the message complete when i use * instead of a specific username, any idea on how to start the messenger service when im not an admin?

im not sure if you can do this, but seeing as though you have cmd access, you could always try "net start messenger", thats the prompt to force start the messenger service, im in vista atm so i cant really check properly, no idea if it will work or not.

hmm yeah i tried that and it says access denied... dang i gotta find away around this

could you not just request the admin starts the service...?
