i was thinking of getting a laptop but since i already have a good desktop i was thinking of just getting a netbook just for surfing the web watching videos and maybe write some papers on it. what are your guys's opinions on them? i mean they're only 300-400$ off newegg. do you think its worth it?

I bought a Asus Eee PC 1000HA not long ago and am very happy with it since when i do gaming i do it on my big pc. Personally i like the netbook i chose because i can use it for 5 hours+ (without buying a third party battery) doing some business on the net, watching a movie, listening to music, or just chatting. Though it doesn't realisticly last 7 hours as it is advertised i've never used it enough to have the battery go below 10%. Anyways for surfing the web watching videos i'd say it is great! I always brag to my fellow mobile pc users that i'm cordless while they are plugged into the wall with their adaptors :D

It is very simple to install ram in a laptop. Most Laptops have 1 or more screwed plates on the bottom that hides the ram, hard drive, other hardware that can be replaced. Just unscrew, take out the old and put in the new.

I would say get a Dell mini 9 for one reason, For your needs I would say go with the ubuntu OS. It is a extremely light OS that runs better then xp in my opinion. And it can do everything that you said you wanted to. Even on the writing subject, stuff you save with open office can be open in MS office. Plus when you get it through Dell with Ubuntu you can customize to 2 GB of memory for cheap. Just me 2 cents.

i just built one of those and the mini 12 but they both add up to be more expensive then the other brands and with less stuff. i still havent decided when im getting one so im in no big hurry. ill just wait a lil bit then decide and who knows maybe some new technology will come out and make them better.

Yeah Dell can be a bit more expensive, but I continue to have great luck with Dell as far as quality so I continue to buy them. Plus the idea for me to get ubuntu with all the working drivers from the manufacture I couldn 't resist.
