Hi, i was just wondering, do you need a special kind of printer to be able to plug it directly into the router or can you use any old printer. Does it have to be a netowrking printer or something??

Can you give any examples of this?

no, i have several of those, one on each computer, what i want to do is conenct a prniter directly to the network hub/router. Because if you turn the host PC off then that printer becomes unuseable, i want a standalone network printer. What about print servers, if i connect a standard printer to a print server and connect that to my network, what will happen.

You should be able to use just standard printers, you upload the driver to the router. Of course you need a specially printer server router that supports the featuer.

I used to have a modem/router/printserver although I didnt have my printer set up directly to the router I sure there was a USB port on my router designed to take a printer directly. What you could do is go to a linksys or netgear site and download the user manual for a router/print server and read through it.
