Nettwork Card Supporting 5 GHz

Hello, i just upgraded to fiber nettwork which supports 5 GHz. My router also support 5 GHz, but my nettwork (Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135) only detects 2,4 GHz nettworks and delivers up to 150 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. 802.11n is a supported radio type which should also support 5ghz. I kinda know that my nettwork card does not support 5ghz but is there any way at all to fix this at all?

Maybe this is a bit advanced for some of you but i would appreciate all answers! ;)

Hello,

There are plenty of 802.11n cards that only support the 2.4 GHz band (such as the Centrino 135). You'd have to upgrade the internal card or use a dual band USB card in order to access 5 GHz networks.

So this is a problem i have to spend money on? there is no other way?

Unfortunately the single band cards do not have a physical 5 GHz radio to communicate to the network with.

You may be able to create concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs on your router, which would allow you to access wifi over the 2.4 GHz band.

Should be alright, is there a performance or interference expectation you have where having a 2.4 GHz SSID would not suffice?

It works alright since i upgraded the nettwork to fiber, but i live with 3 others and we all like to download and watch movies etc. So using 5 GHz would be a huge difference. Thanks for all help beers :)
