Hi all.

Ok heres the background, We have a broadband network set up at my place, router going into a switch. Now we have had this suppling two computers (one XP pro, one Vista64) for ages now. Recently we got another flatmate that when things went weird.

His computer (Vista64) was put on the network and we've had problems ever since, as you all know Vista setups itself up automatically so we havnt changed anything, but now the internet stops working suddently at least twice a night and when we reset the modem it may or may not fix it. And also we can be on the internet like talking on msn/downloading off P2P etc but then suddently our browser wont connect etc (comes up with the usual "connot connect error")

Any ideas on what the problem is? Is this anything to do with two Vista machines?

Thanks

see if you make more traffic than you have, if this is the problem it drops the conection.
the other possible cause, might be, that your ISP has a limitation of the connections.
It can be from the switch, try another port.
And i don't understand why you have a router-> switch
try on the router directly

He says he has a Switch after the "modem"...
and i can't call a router a modem :)
please tell exactly how the configuration is...

P.S.
sorry for the bad english

This ROUTER into a switch. Im sure its not the setup thats doing it more likely something to do with conflicts with two Vista machines. As the networkn was running fine with two computers, and occuasionly a third computer when I hooked up my old machine.

What do you mean by more traffic? Do you mean monthly quota for usage? If so then that cant be it as our contract just keeps cranking up. Also according to the ISP there is only one connection, the switch spilts it up between the computers.
