network not working, please help

hi i am new to this forum just thought i would give it a go. On my computer nothing involving the internet seems to work, apart from IE. For example when i try to go on goole earth the server cannot be found, morzillafirefox server cannot be found. Also no online games work because server cannot be found, ( like steam games). This is a great problem to me, being a computer novice i dont know what to do. If there is nothing to do is there a way to like wipe my computer clean and start again? cheers sam

Can you give us some more details about you network set up?

So, you can browse the internet with IE but can't do anything else?

If nothing involving the Internet works, you need to check your Modem/Router/Ethernet connections.

If you don't use a Router, make sure the the connections from the wall to your Modem are secure, and from the Modem to your Ethernet port are secure.
If you use a Router, make sure the connections form the wall to your Modem are secure, the Modem to your Router, and the Router to your Ethernet port.

Also, make sure your Internet Connection is Enabled in Windows:
1) Start -> Settings -> Network Connections
2) Right-click on Internet Connection and choose Status

And remember, that it could also be a problem with your ISP, which would mean there's nothing you can do until they fix the problem.

internet info

the internet works, on internet explorer and msn i think thats about it, im using tiscali broadband, should itry setting the interent up again, if so how should i go about this? thanks sam

This is the message i get from firefox, Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at en-us.start2.mozilla.com. and a simular message for other internet programs

firewall

i dont think so i have the windows firewall on but i tried turning it off and no change, i also use msconfig in run, to disable everything then try again, still no luck

get out the windows cd's and reinstall...if youve never done it before google windows xp install demo....

i had a problem like this before, my computer said limited connection and i couldnt even go online (even after replacing ethernet cards), i reinstalled xp and wala, it worked again

i been playing around with the network stuff

i dont know if this helps but i will post it any ways. its some of the info from the diagnostic tool thingy.


two failed, here is the info from the two that failed. Is there any other info (if this doesnt help) i can get to help try to solve this problem?

Sam, hold on to that info foe a second. I need to know how your net work is laid out.

How many PCs?
router?
Cable modem?
do you know the IP from your ISP?

router? the 1 that comes with tiscali speed touch modem, not wireless

im not sure but here sum info i go,

subnet mask:255.255.255.255
default gateway:212.139:132.9
:212.139:132.8

im not sure if this help, if not where can i get the inf to help? cheers sam

Is this the info from your router of from the ipconfig?

that bit is sum info from the ip config
