Network server project

I have a server project in mind but I need some advice on how to get everything working together.

This is the equipment I have on my network on any given day.

  • 2010 13" Macbook Pro connected via FW800 to WD My Book 1 tb drive
  • 2010 15" Macbook Pro connected via USB 2.0 to WD My Book 1 tb drive
  • iPad 2 wifi 64gb backed up to iCloud
  • iPhone 4 16gb backed up to iCloud
  • iPhone 3gs 32gb backed up to iCloud
  • Xbox 360
  • Desktop
  • Belkin N600 DB router
  • Belkin F5D8233-4v3 router
  • Belkin Powerline Video link 3

I would like to use the desktop I buit as a centralized device to backup my macbooks, backup, store all the media and backup itself for redundancy. I want to be able to stream alll the media from the computer to the laptops, the Xbox and the iPad and iPhone.

Xbox and computers are hard wired to the Belkin N600 router with the Belkin Powerline adaptors.
I stream from the computer to the xbox with Windows media center.

I want to add the Belkin F5D8233-4v3 router to my network to enhance the signal around the house.

currently the MBP's backup to drives connected to them I want them to backup over ethernet to the computer.

Are there any issues because I am using OS X and windows on the same network?

I want to keep windows 7 as the OS for the computer because of windows media center for streaming to xbox and Office for productivity work.

So the computer would:
  • store a backup f itself and the macbook pro's on it.
  • stream content to the MBP and xbox
  • used for downloading content
  • used for Office 2011

My first issues know are
  • I'm not sure how to connect both routers so they work together and one of them acts as a WAP
  • When I backup the computer to it's and one drive is full it won't continue the backup on the next available drives

Your input is appreciated

I would suggest getting a large external drive for the desktop to backup to, or a large internal drive. If you want to take a system image using the built in windows backup, you will need at least a few Gbs more space than your entire HDD's put together.

The Belkin should be pretty easy to set up as a WAP. Most routers have the ability to double as a WAP, usually it will be somewhere in the LAN or Wireless settings.

I don't know much about Apple's software etc. so someone else might have to help you with that part. You may need a program on the Windows machine that will allow streaming etc. to your apple devices.

I currently have a 2Tb WD caviar green as my main drive which has about 800gb unused. For backup I have two other 2tb drives internally. My first issue is when I run windows backup the main drive is backed up to backup disk 1 but when backup disk 1 is full the backup does not continue on the next drive. So everyother day I have to format one of the backup drive and restart.

My issue is once I connected the second router to my network how will I know it's ip address to access it?

I would suggest setting a static IP to the WAP so that it works. If you don't set a static IP it won't work.
