Networked printing?

So here is one for you guys.

I have a Windows XP computer plugged into a printer and router A. The XP machine prints fine.

I have a switch plugged into router A. Computer connected to the switch print networking-ly fine (that make sense?).

I have a router B plugged into the switch (which is plugged into router A). Much like a chain. Computers connected to this router B, cannot print to the XP machine's printer networking-ly.

Anything I can do to get computers connected to router B to print to the networked printer?

Router A is a belkin something and router B is a Linksys Cisco something. (I can look it up if it matters /that/ much). The computer(s) connected to router B are all wireless, running Vista and 7.

Can the computers on connected to Router B "see" the XP machine's printer? Network-->XP Computer-->Shared Printer

???

If so, and it has been "installed" on the machines on router B, then what happens when you send the printer jobs? Do they show up in the print queue on the XP machine?

Nope, the computers connected to Router B do not "see" the printer in the browser/wizard, nor if I type it in (ie, \\rootpc\printer). So the printer hasn't been "installed" on the router B machines yet :(.

Where do I go from here?

You have to manually install the printer on the router b computers. I am pretty sure the router b computers have a different set of ip address from the router a computers, that is why the computers on the router b not see the printer that easily. Can you see the computers on router A from the computers on router b?
I have the same situation like yours, my wireless printer is on router a which fall on the ip address 192.168.0.??? range, and the computers on the router b fall on 192.168.1.???. my computers on router a see the printer automatically, but the computers on the router b does not see the printer that easily, so I have to look on the ip address of the printer then install on the computers on router b.
Hope this will help.

Why are you running 2 routers? Extending the wireless maybe? What are the ip addresses for the 2 routers? Only one should have dhcp enabled.

I basically have the same setup, sort of. I have my first router as a wrt54gl and have it dhcp enabled. My second router is actually a vonage router and it has dhcp disabled.

However, you need to have a ethernet cable going from one port on the first router to an lan port on the second router, do not use the internet port on the second router. Also the linksys router is set to 192.168.1.1 while the vonage router is set to 192.168.1.2.

So any computer attached to my vonage router can actually see any computer/device attached to the linksys router.

This is basically the same setup you would want to use if you just wanted to use 2 routers to extend the wireless if you have a huge house.

Hopefully this helps.

PS.... Just wanted to let you know that we got swamped with snow the last couple of days but we have a warmup for a few days coming the end of the week.

Yep. :good:

Also, you need to join the computers to your Windows workgroup. If you're not sure how to do that, here's directions for Windows Vista and Windows 7

I have the same sort of setup. After running the Network wizard, my Win 7 machine sees all of the computers on the workgroup as well as the printer. Then you just need to run the Add Printer wizard and you're good to go. ;)

Yeah, I use two routers to extend wireless, they're about 100 foot apart connected via ethernet cable. Wireless coverage over my entire house though :D.

Anyway, both are DHCP and router B was plugged into the internet port. I'll switch it to lan/non-DHCP and see if it works.

I heard the snow was pretty bad most recently, but I didn't know about the warmup. I'll see if I can schedule my trip sooner during this strange warm-ness, thank you.

I'll go try the lan/non-DHCP now and will report back in just a bit.
