ive decided following on from my last topic firewire 800 im going to network my 2 computers together im going to buy one 1000gbit nic card for my old computer and my main computer has a int nic card already which is 1000gbit, what ethernet cable should i use to get speeds of 1000gbit does cat5e do it or 6e

cat5e and cat6 both transmit data at gigabit/second. The only difference is that a cat6 cable does it with higher bandwidth. So, a cat5e does it at 100Mhz and a cat6 does it at 250mhz.

ive made myself a crossover lead, plug them in both computers, change the tcp/ip of both making them static ip's the same subnet mask and it doesnt work any help?

both computers have got wired and wireless adapters and ones xp (old pc) ones vista (my one) basically when i click show networks my wired network is marked with a red cross X and thats both computers it happens to

PS: i know for vista ive got to go into the tcp/ipv4 not v6
