Hi All

I am a little green as you will notice. I have a Dell laptop 6400 and i have just bought a lenovo s9 which has not cd drive could you advise me if there is a way to network the two computers so i can load programms onto my netbook using the drive from my Dell. Or is it easier to buy an external cd drive.

Thanks Rob

actually, if you just set static IP addresses on the two laptops or let windows auto configure an IP for you using apipa you should be able to get away with just using a switch.

Your best bet is going to be to to have the two computers on the same network and share out the optical drive on the laptop as rupertbear suggested. I would kind of assume that since you have two wireless computers (again I assume the laptop is wireless) you have a router already. It is certainly possible to to do a direct connection like AdmnPower suggested but I know seasoned techs who can't get a direct connection to work half the time. Also just be sure you have a cross-over cable. Some newer network cards will detect a direction connection and you can use a standard ethernet cable but most still need a crossover cable.

Yeah, i would think it'd be especially difficult to get a direct connection to work if you're relying on apipa. I've never really found it to work well at all.
