Networking a lot of computers

Hi, I'm in the process of starting a business and I want to learn how to network 20-30 computers. I was wondering if anyone could suggest me some books or online reading to learn how to do this and any advice or other info I would need.

Thanks

I would guess mediocre with computers, I can set up my own house network between 2 computers, I can install graphics cards, modems, ram, etc, but as far as language or higher end knowledge of computers I'm kind of clueless.

im planning to open a computer lounge/gaming lounge, pay hourly to use computer or gaming equipment, attract people who want to play online games or gaming games socially

Thanks, for the link so that would be sufficient to connect all the computers?

That sounds cool...

That will give you connectivity for up to 24 computers, assuming you have 1 server and an internet connection... You might need a firewall, too.

IMO, you are going to need to spend some time thinking about your layout.

Will you have the user computers in groups (maybe 4-8 to a group playing a single game?) If so, I would dedicate a separate switch for each group so you don't bog down a single switch.

How many game servers will you need?

You will want to use a firewall. One that will segment you network into a green zone and a DMZ. You don't want to allow a customer the opportunity to get into your back office machines.

If I were you, I would make them have separate switches but have the ability to play with all the computers on a single game, so you could have large tournaments... And that switch may not be big enough... You may want a bigger one so you can have a few servers running..

um I'm curious how would i set up separate switches, would i need a few different internet connections that connected to each switch, or would i use one internet connect connected to 2 or 3 different switches

to answer the other question each computer i would like the capability of playing its own online game so per say 25 different computers with 25 different users playing different games. Also there be about per say 8 xboxs with different online games playing. Hopefully that cna help answer my question

You would only need one internet connection (a good business connection) but you will need some hefty bandwidth to help prevent lag.
