If you are on a network on a college campus can somebody tell if you are using an Ethernet splitter?

Do you mean Ethernet Cable Splitters ?!!

You can't use splitters with ethernet cable like you can with phone lines. Lots of switches are used in a college campus to give internet to all the rooms.
