Networking Desktop to Laptop

Hi guys, new member here, thanks for taking the time to assist with my question. Ok, currently I use a laptop ( Acer Vista with Home Premium) for my office based work but would like to get a PC and use laptop only when im out on site. I would like to know how I can use the PC, but also have all emails, files, work etc stored on the laptop as well....and vica versa....essentially having them both operating in tandem. Is it possible that they can be networked to automaticall work together?
Sorry for the less than tech savvy question, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you use an online service such as Gmail or Hotmail you can do it easily. All you have to do is login and there are your emails.

Thanks mate for the reply, but its a business and we use domain names etc. I need more than just emails, I need files...basically all work conducted on one to be automatically stored on the other. Hope Im making sense.:confused:
