Hi all im new to this forum, and was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem.

The main computer downstairs is hooked up to a Belkin wireless G router, and my brother runs his netbook off of that connection, and his other desktop computer off of it,both of those use a network card, but i just got a new dell optiplex gx280,and i wanted to hook it up to the connection using my brothers extra DLINK D614+ wireless broadband router, but when i hook it up to my computer,it doesnt recognize our network,so idk wat to do,and i have knowledge about computers in general but not really about networking,so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Well, are you using a wireless adapter? Or are you plugged into the router with an ethernet cable?

I assume you're using Windows?

If you're using a wireless adapter, make sure that it's installed properly with the latest driver and software.

If you're using a cable, check to make sure that your ethernet card is installed and that you're using the correct driver.

Go to Control Panel-->System-->Hardware tab-->Device Manager

Do you see any red "x"s or yellow triangles w/ a "!" ???

Go to Start-->Run and type 'cmd' and in the little black box that pops up type 'ipconfig' and post the resullts.

Also, what happens when you open your browser and type "192.168.1.1" and press <enter> ?

Please post back and we'll try to get you online. :D

How do you actually have it hooked up? It looks like you are trying to access one router from the other one. You would have to manually configure the dlink router to connect to the other router and disable dhcp so the belkin router would assign ip addresses. If you don't have the dlink router plugged into anything then it won't recognize anything. You would need to tell us exactly how you have it hooked up so we can tell you what you are doing wrong.
