I can't figure this out and I read some similar posts and am still at a stand still. My desktop it running XP Pro. I just bought a laptop and would like to share files and print share (printer hooked up to desktop. I would like to do this all wireless. I can see the laptop from the desktop when I click on "view work group computer." When I click on the laptop icon, it gives me this error message.

\\mylaptopname is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.

Well, I can't get my laptop to recognize the desktop at all. I do have wireless internet service to it, but that is it. How can I get vista to recognize or be compatible with xp?

You need to have the permissions for the workgroup that your laptop and desktop are joined by as an administrator. Otherwise you'll keep getting 'Access Denied'.

Can you tell me how to do this? I'm a noob. I'll send you $5 via paypal if you can help me get this thing going. This is just my home network and both computers are mine.

Edit: The paypal payment (I know it isn't much) will be sent to someone who can help me get this thing going. I have been working on this for too long.

I read someplace that on the Windows (I think) machine ifyou do...
- Click start
- Type: regedit
- Press enter
- In the left, browse to the following folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\system\
- Right-click a blank area in the right pane
- Click New
- Click DWORD Value
- Type: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
- Double-click the item you just created
- Type 1 into the box
- Click OK
- Restart your computer

hope it helps
and if it happens to work keep the money
also, before editing the registry you should back it up
