I am getting ready to set up my home network tonight with my main pc(XP Home), laptop(XP Home) and kids pc upstairs (win98) I do have both the XP Home and XP Pro software is there any need to change any of the OS from what they are now to get the network to work. The kids pc has 640 megs of ram and 10 gig hd.

Any sugestions would be apreciated.

You don't need to change any of the OS's to network them. Just make sure that the files you want to share don't have filenames over 12 characters in length and don't have any odd characters, because 98 won't be able to take those filenames.

windows 98 supports long filenames, and the odd characters aren't allowed in XP either. The TCP/IP protocol (or whatever network protocol you use) takes care of everything for inter-OS/filesystem transactions

98 might support long filenames, but not when it comes to networks. In XP, try to share a file with a name longer than 12 characters, it will give you an error when you try to open it.
