New 14 inch laptop

I'm in the market for a laptop. Ill be using this mostly for college and for note taking in class (aim, torrents, surfing net). I would like a dual core machine but is not neccesary. Would also like a gig or ram. Anyone no of any sales or anything in the 600 dollar range? does not need to have a onboard graphics card. any helps appreciated.

i think it's a 1.6 intel

i just bought a 1.6 amd 13" for $599, and absolutely love it

i would suggest in that price range, get one with xp. if you get one with vista, you'll wish you didn't.

My $599 AMD 64 laptop got a 1.0 vista score when i tried to install ultimate, and i couldn't even use aero. I'm going back to XP PRO as soon as my university gets more copies in stock.

the slower memory and hard drives in laptops don't fare too well with the active memory useage of vista. it's constantly preloading things into virtual memory and your ram, and it really bogs things down.
 
Hes new to laptop buying. No need to say insults, self control.


Check newegg. Or if you have any local stores IE best buy or something, check there specials.
 
i meant i could use integrated graphics lol where did you get your 13 inch and what brand is it? how is the quality of gateways?

my sister has been thought 3 gateways, all of which failed. first two failed in waranty, after that i built her one and its been runnig fine for a year now. i HATE gateway, and dell. Dell is not as bad, though
