If its rated for 6mb down and your only getting 3.9mb down, theres a problem there.

And that test no where compared to Tweakers fiber line (I think thats what he has).

Mr. One up... ;)

I used this test
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

AND Omega.. When an ISP says 6.0/384 that is burst speeds. In all likelihood you will NEVER have a steady speed that high. It will only burst to that.

Either way, $20? Wow, im saving money and upgrading!

NEW!
I just re-ran the test with my cat-5 cable and desktop. (olf on was wireless g to laptop)

9.269/345
Well, someone else try the test.. see if they are seeing any variations... As that exceeds the cap set by the ISP.

I know you never get the actual rated speeds, but usually it isnt half what they say. Like for me, im rated at 2.5Mbps, when in reality i get around 2-2.2Mbps.

Actually I've moved to a new city since then but I have Fiber in the new apartment as well, $20/month.

Could probably do better though but the gf is using her net access, I've got friends with 100Mbps lines but they also pay more which I dont feel like doing.

Wow, it is kinda strange how the whole ISP change will make regional areas better for CS. SBC connects a lot of Servers on the west coast... California, Oregon, Washington, Canada (all less than 100 ping in cs)

The new company runs direct to Chicago, and makes connecting to East coast and Midwest servers faster than west coast. And I am still in California.

How come it gives me a downoad score of 1283 kbps, but when I actually DL something I get about 150?

1283 Kbps (Kilo bits per second) equals ~160 KB/s (Kilo Bytes per second) (1283/8=~160)

Heres my score

Download Speed: 1716 kbps (214.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 212 kbps (26.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

the fastest downlaod i ever saw was 5 KB/s.....i was so suprise....
i also saw in the corner of my page a 7kb/s....i almost jumped out of my chair!!!We pay 15$ per month for unlemited dial-up connection....great eh? 9it suppose to be 20$, but they made a deal)
