I recently purchased a new Acer laptop: AS5535-5050 ATH X2 QL-64 2.1G 2GB 250GB DVDRW 15.6-WXGA WL WVHP with a 2 gig RAM update to 4 gig total RAM. I have been very concerned about getting virsus so I installed Norton 360 immediately. As the weeks have gone by, the unit keeps getting slower and slower I have added other anti spyware, adware, cookies cleaner and registery cleaners to keep everything working. Now it takes almost 25 minutes before I can do anything waiting to boot up. I guess I'm pretty stupid when it comes to setting up this thing apparently. What am I doing wrong? Also, The unit came with a trial of Carbonite back-up software which I decided that I did not need to spend the $150.00 for the upgrade since Norton comes with back-ups. The problem with this is that I cannot completely delete this from the hard drive.....Help!!! Thanks,

Norton was a mistake for a laptop. In fact, it's a resource hog on
anything you put it on.

Also all the other anti malware software you installed is overkill.

I suggest you purchase NOD32 Antivirus software, and get rid of
Norton and the rest of the junk that you installed. NOD32 is the
lightest A/V software I've used (besides MSE) but that's not released
yet.

If you can't afford another software option, then download AVG Free.

No matter which you decide, Norton and all that crap has to go.

THEN, you can look in my sig to eliminate some Unnecessary Vista
Features
to speed things up a bit.

Best of luck. :good:
