New and computer build question

Hey all, first post on the site. I was planning on building my own PC and wanted opinions on if all the components will work together. I've never built a computer before, so any tips or pitfalls to lookout for would be great. Without further ado:

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103291
$148

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131325
$94

RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122
$45x2=$90, 8GB total

Vid Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801
$214

Hard Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136317
$109

Blu Ray:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136133
$114

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156078
$39

Total: $808

P.S. I already have a 27" LCD monitor, Vista Business

So is this a good build for the money? Does everything fit together well? Do I need anything not listed here?

Thanks for the input.

Edit: the computer will be used mostly for web surfing and gaming, games being X-Plane, SimCity, Civilization, Spore, etc. type games. No heavy graphic shooter type games. So could I maybe bring the Vid card down a little bit to reduce the cost even more?

You only need 1 set of the RAM...4GB is more than plenty for your build. Take the extra $45 and put it into a better motherboard. I have that same RAM by the way...great stuff:)

As for the hard drive...Western Digital are great drives. Just be aware that the "Green" series do not perform as well as other drives. They have all that power reduction and performance monitor crap built in. I would suggest the "Black" series of drives. You get better performance for only a few cents of savings in electricity. You can read about it here.

Here is a 750GB "Black" series for $20 less than the one you picked.

Thanks for the response. Good idea, i guess i can always increase the RAM later if i need it.

The motherboard confuses me...is it really tightly tied to the CPU brand/specs? Or can you pick out any recent AMD motherboard and it works with the quad core CPU?

Thanks for the input on the hard drive, i wasn't sure what that "green" meant.

What about the vid card? Is that too much for my uses, or are vid cards a thing where bigger is always better?

Thanks again.

The graphics card is a great choice...the 4870 series cards are almost legend at this point. I would not downgrade the card since you are running a 27" monitor...you will need the extra horsepower behind your card.

The motherboard issue is kinda like this...If I were to buy an AMD northbridge chipset motherboard, I would get a 790 series chipset. Either the FX or GX models. The one you picked has a 780G chipset. The 790 series walks on the 780 series, just look at the spec sheets.

Very good. Another question I had was how hard it is to attach all the ribbons and cables? Do I need extra screws, cables and ribbons to attach things, or should all this come with the original components?

And does anything I listed come with USB ports? Or is that an additional purchase? See this is where a build is gonna kill me, not knowing how to get the things I want/need. Starting to think I should just buy...:)

It is actually easy to attach all the cables...there is not as much as you might think. This guide will help you through it.

As for the screws...the parts usually come with them. Every build I have done I always end up with piles extra, I have a bag of screws at this point. The case should include screws also.

Yes...it will come with USB ports. The case will include a cable that runs from the USB slots on the case to your motherboard, that will power the case USB ports. Also the motherboard has USB slots on the back, you can plug things directly into it. And if you really need more, you can get a PCI slot card, this will add even more if really needed.
