i just got a new battery for my laptop. the old battery had a 4000mAh life, this new one has a 5200mAh life. any idea how much longer this one will last on a charge? i was getting just under an hour with the old one.

Roughly 30% longer. If you got about 3hrs. of up-time on the old one when it was new, you should get close to 4hrs. on the new one. Actual time will vary on the laptop model.

Were you getting just under an hour on an older battery, or is that what you got new? you should get about 25% more time than what you got on your original battery when it was new;)

i checked out the battery last night, and it's impressive. i'm thinking there was something wrong with the battery i had in there, because i went from under an hour to an hour 40 minutes. that's almost double! now i can almost watch a whole movie. :P

Under 2 hours?! Is that your actual usage time before the battery died or what the OS reports? Also, what make/model is your laptop?

Batteries do wear out over time. How old was your previous one? Such a jump from an older battery to a new one is not uncommon. I would expect it.

that's what the os reports, i didn't have time to actually see how accurate that was.

the laptop is an acer aspire 3100, but i took the sempron out and put a dual core turion in it, more ram, and a 7200 rpm drive so i'm sure that's affecting the up time of the battery. i'm going to do a couple more charge/discharges and test actual results.

Ah, ok. That doesn't sound too far off then. It just sounded like it was sucking down the juice a bit too quick at first. After a few more charging cycles you should see the time improve slightly.

How old was your previous battery?

i got it used from my cousin so i'm not real sure, but i figure it's about 3 - 3 1/2 years old. he said he just left it plugged in all the time anyway, so that probably messed it up some too. i'm going to test the actual time for this one letting it sit at idle until it runs out, then charge it and play a game or something and see how much shorter the time is. i should check the cool and quiet settings, lol.
