Hi Guys

I havent done a computer from scatch in awhile so Im a bit lost to be honest on price vs performance...

My mate is after a budget gaming rig... To run modern games at max/near max... Now my computer (in sig) can run anything Ive thrown at it so far easy as so I dont think it needs to be anywhere near as powerful as that...

So help me build it...

Im using this site: www.pricespy.co.nz

Which lists the cheapest price for computer components... I would appreciate your help off their as its all in NZ dollars etc.

Thanks

Any specific budget? Need an OS?

Nah no OS needed I have my old copy of vista he can use...

Using that link... Budget would be around 600 ish for bare bones (case, psu, cpu, gpu, ram, mobo, hdd, dvd)

What type of games does he play?
Will he overclock?

CPU: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=540588 -$90(NZ)
Mobo: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=498998 - $90
GPU: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=801734 - $120
PSU: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=618135 - $90
RAM: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=505886 - $90
HDD: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=145652 - $60
DVD: Any cheap SATA DVD-RW - $40
Case: http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=294113 - $80

Total: $660

A little over budget, but doesn't compromise on quality and will run any game you throw at it, albeit sometimes not at max settings.

Beware of shipping costs if buying from multiple dealers.

Sweet Ill have a look at those... He wont OC since he is quite computer illiterate... Games, most modern games etc... Nothing hard out like Metro or anything... Its mainly so he can lan with us, and we play games like Boarderlands, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Battlefield 2 etc etc.

He has agreed to this list though, but if you guys can think of better for the same price then by all means:

Email sent to my mate said:
CPU
AMD Phenom II 955 quad core $180

Motherboard
Asus M4A78LT-M LE $90
There are a few motherboards around this price, this looks the best of the bunch but Ill keep researching up until the time so we get the best one available.

RAM
A-Ram 2x2gb DDR3 1600 CL9 $75
Quite similar to my ram but a crapper brand lol.

Graphics
Sapphire HD5770 1gb $185
Sadly these prices havent shifted much, this is the same card as Caley has.

Case
Cheapo Case with Power Supply $70 (http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=876905 or http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=848643 both are essentially the same just look different)

Hard Drive
1tb $85

DVD
LG $35
Basic DVD burner/reader

Monitor
LG 22" Flat Screen 1920x1080 $205
This is slightly better than my screen but the same size.

Keyboard n Mouse
Wireless KnM $30

Wireless Internet Connector
$20 there are heaps of them for around this price.
I would still prefer using a cable which would mean you wouldnt need this, but dont know if cable is possible in your flat so yeah.

= $975

But if you guys can come up with a better build using that www.pricespy.co.nz site then by all means?

I don't know what the AUD/NZ dollar deal is currently, but those prices seem outrageously expensive from that site. You could always try staticice:
