New Build - Can't Load OS

Hello, I assembled my pc yesterday and spent the better part of yesterday trying to load windows. I set the bios to read the cd first and the comp would go to a blue screen, act as if it was loading a bunch of files, and randomly stop. A friend had transfered all the data from my old hd to the new one, would this affect anything, is there a way to wipe the hd from where I am now?

I think the Linux CDs usually come with partitioning software. When you partition, it usually wipes the HD. If you can use another computer with a CD burner, partition and don't install Linux. If you have an XP cd, it might also have partitioning things. You could also google "boot partitioning software" and see what you get, sadly you would need another computer. If all else fails, take to Hd out, throw in on the ground, and send it back for a refund sayingthe case was damaged, but I don't think you would want to try that. But you may want to think a little, here. 1)If ALL your files were copied to the new hard drive, then you should have the OS on it, and you should just be able to boot your computer. If nothing works, get mad at Microsoft for making faulty Windows CDs
 
Well, later in the installation process for Windows there is a part where you can partition, but if you can't reach that download a boot disk from bootdisk.com, run "fdisk" and partition that way. Where exactly does it stop while loading files?
