I have a budget for a new tower at $1800. I have an Hd camcorder and want to burn home movies to blue ray. I think I need an i7. If you can help me with any or all the parts that would be great. This is my first build. Would a mid tower work or would a full tower be best. Thanks

Nice build :D

I have the Antec 300 case. One of the annoying parts is the front USB are situated
above the optical drive slots. So if you open the BluRay drive, while you have a mouse,
headset, webcam, etc plugged into the front USB ports, the cable is in the way of the
drive bay. Not very smart design. But the air flow on the case, with the two big
fans that are included, is remarkable. Great value for the case.

Would change mobo to:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186169

Memory to: (OCZ DDR3 isnt very good, DDR2 is excellent but with DDR3 they are slipping in quality, so go with G.Skill)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231247

Also, would recommend a larger case like HAF 932 or Antec Ninge Hundred Two.

And go with this power supply:

You have plenty of budget for a state-of-the-art performer. You will be fine. Give some thought to having lots of hard drive capacity, not just for video editing and storage, but for backup as well. Plenty of memory is also an important aspect of video editing as well.

Mid towers are normally plenty for what you want to do. Choose one with enough hard drive bays to handle a large amount of storage. I would think one with 6 drive bays would be good. Also choose a mainboard that includes a RAID controller and plenty of SATA connectors - 8 should do it. You can put your backup outside the computer in a separate box. In fact this is usually good idea. There are some external video editing "appliances" that you might want to consider as a peripheral. I'll leave the suggestions on specific parts to others.

I think the logic of having USB on the top is that you leaving the case on floor, and you don't need to brend your body to plug in a usb pen drive/ digtial camera...
I expect most ppl plug mouse/ webcam plugged at the back.

Any reason to choose that Mobo? I choose that gigabyte mainly due to its price...

I've no idea about OCZ DDR3 RAM, are they bad?

I choose that OCZ PSU mainly due to combo deal...

Check out my $2000 budget (that is including 2 monitors), I think that it is a pretty good list of stuff for reference.

Well, the foxconn mobo is just overall a little better motherboard, and is one of the best overclockers. OCZ ddr3 i personally dont like, and im sure that anyone who owns a 790i shares my opinion, i have to have my memory voltage at 0.2v higher than manufacturer spec and run higher timings, and the memory isnt bad either, its just (as ocz says) "because of my chipset". Also, the corsair power supply has a much better power output and has a single 12v rail;) But, here is what i would recommend for the budget range:

Motherboard, Foxconn Bloodrage: ($274.99 $254.99 after rebate)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186163

Memory, Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2gb) DDR3: ($134.00 Free Shipping)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145242

Heatsink, Xigmatek S1283V Dark Knight Heatsink: ($39.99 Free Shipping)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

BluRay Drive: ($169.99 Free Shipping)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136155
