HI

I'm currently in the market to purchase a high performance gaming computer with a cap of $AUD4000. I would prefer to ensure that my computer is as future proof as possible, the graphics card is nvidia (preferably), and the cpu and motherboard are set up for overclocking and SLI/crossfire.

The computer store quoted me the below specs

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 MB - LGA1366 Intel x58 - Motherboard - $438
Intel core i7 920 processor 2.66GHZ - CPU - 429
Corsair CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 6GB (3*XMSC2GB) DDR# - RAM - 250.8
Galaxy GF GTX 295 - Graphics - 699
ANtec 1200 - Case - 269
Antec Tricool 80mm case fan - side fan - 20
Western Digital Caviar Green Power 1TB - Hard Drive - 109
Kingston SSD Now V-series SNV125 64GB - system hard drive - 179
1000W Corsair HX-1000 ATX power supply - Power supply - 335.23
Asus xonar hdav13/deluxe/a - sound card - 294.53
Netgear WN111 rangemax - wireless - 89
hauppauge wintv nova-t 500 mce - tv tuner - 199

operating system will be a windows 7 ultimate.

Feel free to addd/amend/delete/comment where ever possible.

Is this a good system for what I need?`

First off is there any reason why you prefer Nvidia? ATIs 5970 is currently the best card out at the moment, then comes the 5870 and THEN the gtx295. The case is good, but I'd personally prefer the Coolermater HAF 932. As for the Motherboard, the Asus p6t deluxe v2 is a better choice. One last question - What computer store told you this? Are they building it for you?

Oh, well the way I'm reading this is you start out by stating the current graphics card that is the best, then you state it again saying it is second best, then giving the conclusion the GTX 295 is the third best.

the gtx 295 is the 3rd best GPU on the market, though. The 5850 is good as well, supporting 3 monitors and having a low power consumption but in terms of performance the Nvidia gtx295 is the 3rd best.

That should clear it up

If you're going to pay that much for the 295 go with the 5970 it's 2 5870s on 1 board and 1 5870 is close to the GTX295 performance (unless new drivers helped it's performance :) )

hmm i wonder what the price of the 5970 is in aus? lol

Its up to you, there probably going to be as expensive as hell. If it were me i would get the 5870, but its your choice.
