will all these component parts work? and how is it? it will mainly be used for media, and a "lil" gaming or is that overkill for media use?

you need to get ddr2 ram not ddr3 :P theres some good g skill ram 1066 for about 45-50 bucks i believe

bleh, i figured. :(, haha thats what i was more concerned about, haha was hoping could use ddr3, i'll try changin the MOBO then.

i wouldnt say ddr3 is worth the extra money, just stay with that motherbored and get some ddr2, you wont really even notice the speed differnce if all your doing is watching movies

ddr3 with a core2duo?

would there be a point in it? im sure there is like %2 performance gain!!

you are mixing an old processor with new ram, ddr3 is aimed at I7

One more suggestion, get rid of the sound card, it would waste 40 bucks + shipping.

Your motherbored has 7.1 sound on it itself, sound cards are basically useless. people say they can see a difference, well unless you got a 2000 dollar speaker setup then you don't need one. lol

kk took the soundcard out, changed the memory/cpu, how is it now?

also what bout the w7 issue? think it would work fine? he wants the w7 64bit installed on it.

Well windows 7 is basically a fixed up version of vista. I'm sticking with XP but he is getting a new computer so he probably wants the best.

Well the only reason for 64 bit is if you want more then 4 gigs of ram. The problem with 32 bit operating systems is they can only recognize 3.65 gigs of ram even if you have 4 in it. Even though 3.65 gigs is plenty for anything but photo editing.

so put 64 bit on it and later on if he wants he can upgrade the ram.

There is no price difference between 32 bit and 64 bit.

Windows 7 should run perfect with no lagg on 4 gigs of ram. Vista runs great on 1 gig so 4 gigs would be awesome for videos and maybe a game or to.
