I am building a new machine and getting the a message at start up that says NTLDR is missing and it asks me to hit control Alt Delete.

What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like your hdd is fried. I helped someone else earlier this week with that problem. NTLDR is a boot file and is needed. He reformatted and it didnt do anything. Replaced it and it works good now. You could try this. There is a bootable utility on that site that might work.

Lmao g25... sorry couldn't resist...

HDD friend? Haha :D

Sorry... back on topic.

NTLDR will be missing until your install your own operating system.

Are you booting to the XP(i assume) install cd? You must go into the bios so that it looks for a bootable cd before it access the hard drive.

If the harddrive has never been formatted, which it doesn't sound like it has, the CD will automatically load provided it's in the drive and the boot order is set to CD first.

Honestly, this doesn't sound like an Asus problem, it sounds like you don't know what you're doing. Don't slam Asus yet, and don't rule them out until you have your own little duckies in a row. :)

is your pirated os disc bootable?

does the pc recognize the hard drive in the primary boot order? hd won't be recognized if the pata jumpers are set improperly

specs?

it's plain simple... you can't get that error message if you aren't booting from hard drive. Your ntldr is the file that shows your computer where your os is installed. Reinstalling the os will solve it and there are some tools for replacing your ntldr but that's more complicated.

Anyways you can just boot from cd, if you get this error message you're already booting from hd. Meaning you screwed up.
