I just put together a new computer today and I'm having a problem with it booting up. When I push the on button it starts for 10 seconds and quits. (Shutsdown by itself) Not sure if it is a motherboard issue or not but here is what I put together.

Asus Striker MB
8 GB OCZ Memory SDRAM
Intel Q9450 quad CPU using stock fan
850 watt power supply
BFG9800 GX2 video card

Please help...Thanks

Made sure the motherboard has all screws it in, mostly likely shorted it out...

also check everything for the PSU (power supply) is connected

Wow, slow down. There's heaps to check on before you can actually say that something's shorted out...

Sure all connections are OK?

Is the HSF seated properly? Is the thermal paste good? Sometimes, when cooling's not properly in place, the CPU heats up quick and then shuts the computer down to protect itself.

Do you get any kinda picture on the screen? If not, it could be GFX card. If your card doesn't produce any picture, try the onboard. If neither seems to work, there indeed could be something wrong with the mobo, PSU or -less likely- some other component.

Oh and sometimes HDDs can cause weird problems if faulty or incorrectly connected/set up.

try taking out some of the ram, if your getting blue screens

Thanks for all the responses...I was not getting anything on screen it wouldn't stay on long enough. It would shutdown within seconds of pushing the on button. I checked everything and have come to the conclusion its the power supply. (crosses fingers) Should know by Wednesday...Thanks again

Just changed out the Power supply and the thing thing happens. The motherboard light is on the computer only stays on for less than 10 seconds....not sure what issue is but it looks like I will have to replace my new equipment with new equipment. Any ideas???? thanks

are the wires coming from the computer fan plugged in properly, i guess sometimes they decide to shutdown if they dont have anything, are all the standoffs properly installed, is the graphics card all the way in, does the graphics card have its connecters in all the way?

I am guessing you know what you're doing if you have those types of parts, but are you sure everything is compatible?

Spoke with ASUS last night and they think I have a bad board. I called Newegg and they are going to overnight cpu and MB just to make sure. I replaced the PS, tried it without MEM or Videocard with no luck. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Thanks,
