New Build (help)

Hey guys...ok lets jump right into it. Im looking for a new build i was considering intel since i have been a long time fan of AMD just to see how it performs. Im on a $500 budget for this build all im looking for is a motherboard, cpu, and ram. I will be using this system mostly for games so i was wondering if i should go for an e6300 - 6400 or the newer amd 6000+? I was kind of leaning towards the AMD on the grounds that i've never overclocked anything before and im not really comfortable doing it which is a sign that i probably shouldn't do it. Any help with this or a parts list would be appreciated....

Well, I'm not sure if you can afford a 6000+ or e6400 on a $500 build. Can you use anything from your old build?

yes...im keeping my videocard...case..dvd/cd drives..speakers ect. everything but the memory, cpu and motherboard..i guess i shouldn't have said new build so much as a massive upgrade

Take a look over at some of the AM2 boards down in place at this time. With the AMD quad cores soon to come out since Intel already was first the boards themselves are seeing under $100 easily enough. A pair of 1gb DDR2 800 dimms can be found for the price range of as low as $160 upto $230-. A sub totoal of the most costly sees $230 + $135 = $365 An AM2 model cpu can be found for ? 5000+ X2 = $159.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103030

im kind of eyeballing the E6320 just wondering if i'll get more performance in games with that over the 6000+. If i did get the E6320 i would overclock it of course

DUMP THE SUPPLY! especially if you are planning to oc. Rosewill is one of those "bottom of the barrel" makes there. A good breakdown of the hardwares you will be running besides cpu will be a big help in advising which make and model supplies are better for you there. Having a good reliable supply that is stable when loaded will be needed there.

well thats kind of why i made this thread...im upgrading for gaming should i go with amd or intel? i currently have an amd 3500+ but want to make the move to dual core.

i'll be running a radeon x1800xt 256 mb....1 sata harddrive....1 cd/dvd burner...thats about it

if you can request one from www.newegg.com at or under $60 feel free to do so

The X1800 series was a good line while still falling behind the 7800s with the NVidia vpu chip seen there. But with both 32bit versions of XP and Vista Home Premium running on one machine here I've been looking at the results from newer games as well as different softwares to see how they run on the X1300Pro. Between AMD and Intel everyone's been after Core 2 models and the new dual core line they have out.

While still gaming with the 3500+ and the lower end MSI card here the new AMD quad core and R600 line of higher performers for ATi look inviting. But you know those prices are going to be high as always when stuff first comes out. Presently the Intel models see a lower price and seem to have topped AMD. For a good work horse build I'll be staying with AMD for some time. You have decide there on the best performer for your budget.

i think i'm going with this i like the price and it seems to be pretty solid stuff im not on a quest for top of the line at the moment

Buying the board retail will always help rather then not having the cables and other things included. I know the feeling on not jumping on leaving room for later expansion and updating hardwares. The current hardwares now used here except supply, case, hard drives, and cooling will be used to upgrade another case sooner or later for the newer hardwares. The capture here shows most of the specifications and items included.

If you are thinking of OCing the Gygabyte DS3 board will be your best bet, very easy to OC lots of parameters.

There wasn't anything wrong with the list there for the price range you are looking at. The impression here was that you weren't looking for any screaming ocing build there. For boards retail always works out since you get everything that is supposed to come with. For the cpu fyou can save by buying OEM if you already have a good 3rd party cooler onhand or plan to order one along with the rest.

What are you saying? He said that he would OC.
Also, he never even suggested geting a OEM board so why are you bringing it up? He has a retail board listed up there. Never mind that, he even STATES that he is buying everything retail so I see no point as to why you said that..

I know he has retail items selected. But what happens when the item you want isn't found retail but OEM? Plus for a second not first cpu when going to boost later you may already have a good 3rd party cooler onhand. No OEM? It seems the AS5 is OEM. For the 5200+ X2 AM2 model going OEM would only see a $19- difference there. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103759R

Uh, he said that he is buying everything retail EXCEPT thermal grease, which if i remember correctly, AS5 is.

Second, I never said anything about getting a 3rd party cooler or not.

Third, no one said anything about going OEM. He specifically said he was buying everything retail EXCEPT AS5.

Fourth, what kind of item can't be FOUND retail if it's a major part of the PC such as the cpu, motherboard, etc.?
Note that I never said it isn't available OEM. I just said it can be found retail.
