New Build - Need Help!

Hello - I've compiled the following system for multimedia (occasional video editing - mostly video recording), some light gaming, photo editing and everyday multitasking (cd/dvd burning, music ripping etc.). I want a fast system, perhaps something I can overclock in the future but not now. Looking to get ideas from all you experts out there - this is my first build, I've spent a lot of time picking these components and need some solid advice before purchasing.

The budget is probably around 1500 - 1600 including monitor (not listed), could use suggestions on this also.

The Ram and Motherboard you have selected are both out of stock. The Ram you selected is "value" ram. You can get a high quality Ram based on your price range, and for your future "overclocking" you will not want value ram. You don't have a floppy drive, I'm not sure if you wanted to leave one out or not. Your mother board isn't going to support overclocking also if you look Here you can see it seems that it doesn't work with all types of ram. I'm not sure if you went with Intel for a specific reason, they also have other good Intel motherboards but also you can look at other good brands like : Abit MSI, DFI, ASUS.
 
Thanks for the reply, I did select the motherboard based on features and price, combined with the intel processor I thought it would have a high probability of compatability. I selected the RAM from the link you provided above, I've read a lot about both ASUS/Gigabyte and Intel boards being finicky with RAM - so I thought that was safe but did think the price was high for value.... perhaps I could get a cheap 256 or 512 value stick to get the BIOS flashed then I could add higher performace RAM?

I was planning on purchasing both mobo and ram elsewhere, I just liked the wish list all on one page, and I will get a floppy, thanks for the reminder.

Another mobo I liked originally was the ASUS P5B Deluxe...
 
 
Thanks for the vote of confidence ;) In all reality it was kinda hard to settle for that, with a budget of say 2grand it woulda been a walk in the park with Kentsie+4GB (which is a blessing if you ever do video stuff)
 
Thanks for the feedback Praetor, I like it - what would you suggest for a monitor? Would the performance of the 6700 over the 6600 be worth the extra 200? Where would I see that difference the most?
 
1. I dont do monitor reccomendations because I go for CRTs and soceity is obscessed with smaller flatscreens (even though their desks havnt gotten any smaller....)

2. You'll notice with video stuff for sure

That's cool, I have both and understand your point - today I saw the ACER 22" LCD however (599 in store) and almost walked out with it...

As for the motherboard, I did remember the negative reviews of ASUS support, and the positive of Intel - I suppose I was assuming I'd be making phonecalls since it's my first build and I'm bound to need help for 'rookie' things.

Should I get a Raptor 74GB for the bootable drive, I was going to use the other two for data and backup...

Is the 6700 worth the $200 over 6600? Any ideas on pricecuts in April on these? I'd rather not wait (need now syndrome) - but if we're talking $100 or more I'll suffer the duration...
