Hello CF community. I'm rebuilding my desktop and doing it from scratch (my last build was in 2002) I'm a little rusty and admit that I am uneducated when it comes to certain RAM, C2D/X2 & PCIe. At the moment I'm running on the following:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (2GHZ)
1G RAM
GeForce 6800 XT

End result is looking like this:

i would get a x2 and a better name brand motherboard than that one, like this
x2 3600+
and ASUS 570 mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103760

or an x2 3800+, i would not suggest that motherboard though
i would get a SATA hard drive also, i will look at it more later but i gtg, maybe somone else can help you
and that AMD cpu/motherboard combo, does it even come with a HSF?

Edit: i would get this memory for like $118 Corsair (good name brand) 2gigs

Thanks Thatguy, what you linked is the same and it also saves me about 80$. (both my previous choices didn't include HSF) Only thing I don't like is the motherboard looks a little small and clutter ya? Whats that huge bronze thing in the middle, looks intimidating :( BTW I added my HD link, I didn't link it cause I didn't think it would matter to much.

Western Digital Caviar SE WD1200JS 120GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

Also I'm taking your advice and going with AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2

That hard drive woul be fine, that motherboard is the same size as the one in your first post...much better quality also is "AM2" socket as is the CPU i linked (newer socket) before too long the 939's "motherboards/cpu's" you wont see them any more so you would be a litter more "future" proof.
(there are other options than what i linked) i would stick with names such as ASUS, Gigabyte, Foxconn, Evga.....(read mobo's 101)

Do you already have a operating system?

Yep, I've got Windows XP ready to load as soon as I receive it all :) Just waiting on what you think, I sent you a PM.

Things you must get,
2x 1gb ram, 800 pc6400
Dual core cpu
Name brand mobo

One mistake I just made was not buying a good psu.
Don't spent $100 on one either, but don't use the one that comes with the case. I just don't trust it.

Do you have an LCD screen at least 19", if you don't I suggest to cut some prices and buy one, you won't regret it.
5.1 surround too, I got my logitec for $50 and I love it too..

Peace

RAM, CPU, Mobo are all checked. I also have a 19' ViewSonic so thats checked as well. As for Sound, I will use on board for the time being or slip in my creative card, I'm not to worried about sound yet. I need to make some more money selling MMO stuff :) I'm weird about the funds I have in my bank account, and even though I have plenty left I don't like being under a certain amount or I feel "broke".

Yeah, this is the psu i suggested him since he is on a tight budget,

outside of that asus board i linked, in a pm i suggested this board also for $5 more

Anyone else got suggestions? its late im out for the night :P

Indeed it is late :) I'm setting up my bot before I head to bed. Another solid mobo choice, I was reading up on the reviews of ASUS and I read a lot of the same complaints, DOA, RAM Voltage issues etc... This GIGABYTE mobo has some solid reviews. I think I will go with this one. It looks like its SLI capable to am I rite? I will take the PSU into consideration but I haven't found many cases that I like. I like em clean and simple, preferably with a window so I can see the guts ^^

Once again thanks guys for input.

The V-Series included with that case is actually significantly better than the Thermaltake. It's quite sufficient for your hardware.

If you want something else, the Ultra XVS 600W with the discount included would be a top pick. The XClio is very good as well.

Yes both PSU look great and have solid reviews the only problem is atm I'm over budget up to 705$ with shipping and tax included (Tiger charges a lot to ship cases 33$) I'm going to go ahead and order within the hour. Not changing the PSU or Case. I don't think ill come close to maxing out that 500W PSU that comes with the case so :P

Order placed, should be getting everything sometime next week and build by weekend. Thanks everyone! Expect a forum asking for help! when assembling mobo and brass thingies (dunno what they're called) that go inside the case so the mobo can rest on without getting a ZAP!

You could get this memory, you would save about ~$35
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098
its got a $40 instant rebate
that would help...i just would not try and go cheaper with a motherboard, to me the mobo is too critical to go cheap on, you may be able to find other ways to lower it, such as a cheaper video card....but for the price of that G. Skill i would get it, you cant hardly get 1gb for that price.

Edit: you edited your post right after i posted :P, you wont regret it :)

Ahhh that guy! you are always on top of things! Actually I should have down graded my RAM to the oringal G.Skill which is pretty much the same price as the one you linked me. Only reason why I went with the Corsair is cause I saw that the G.Skill ran @ 1.9-2.1 and that the old motherboard wasn't allowing anything over 1.9

Bleh whatever, I can't wait for all this to come. I just hope nothing comes DOA, keep your fingers crossed for me!

PS I really wish I would have bought one of the G.Skill RAM and save a bit of money :X Oh well

BTW where do I look to see what voltage the motherboard will allow RAM to be set at? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128014
