Ok, Please pardon my ignorance, this is my first machine build since about 2003.
Recently I've been using my Sager NP8760 for work. (Win7 64 Pro, i7 820, 8gb 1333 Ram, nVidia 285m GTX and a recent addition of a Crucial 128gb SSD) I wanted to build a machine/graphics workstation to use for work only, that was reasonably transportable. (Hence the Sugo case and uATX mobo.)
In preparation I perused the tech forums and got advice from lots of knowledgeable people, bought my parts and assembled the machine. However I'm worried about the apparent performance. I have not loaded on any applications yest, but it seems to me that it should at least boot faster than the Laptop. That is not the case. My laptop starts up in 1minute using the standard hard drive, it starts in 35 Seconds with the SSD. The new machine takes 1-1/2 minutes to boot. Here is the parts list for the new build. I realize that this machine has overclocking abilities that I have not tried yet. However, shouldn't a i7 930 with 6gb of 1600 tipple channel Ram be quicker that a 820 with dual 1333 dual channel ram--before overclocking?
Can anyone recommend free software verifying performance? I remember using Sandra, but I'm not sure what's out there these days.
