I know i did one of these not so long ago, but i never actually got round to ordering the stuff. So... once again, i need:

New RAM (preferably 4gig)
New motherboard
New processor

the BEST i can get for

£400. If you can use this website, i'd be grateful!

www.ebuyer.com

Thanks! :)

The I5 is about the same performance as the 955 at stock clocks. With turbo boost, the I5 overclocks itself to 3.2ghz, which is the stock clock of the 955. Clock for clock, the intel I5 is slightly better, it's not large differences like the I7 though.

I prefer AMD for gaming. They are easier to overclock, and perform well in games because the CPU's have more L2 cache per core.
So the question is, what do you use your PC for? If it's just gaming and internet like me, I would go with AMD. The future upgrade compatability saves you down the road as well.

Using for gaming really, but i dont have enough know how to start overclocking... by the way - is that stuff you posted up all compatible with each other? Thanks!

AMD is better in this case. If you had unlimited money and stuff, then intel i7 because it is the best CPU out at the moment, but clearly, this isn't a best of the best system.

I would go AMD then because it will perform perfectly fine with any game at all and also because of compatibility. Intel have decided to use a million and one bloody chipsets, so you have 0 upgradibility on your system without going out and buying a new motherboard if you plan to upgrade in the future. However, if you go AMd, they have 1 chipset fits all, their phenom 2 processors, regardless of the number of cores and the speed, they all sit on the AM3, and because AM3 is also a new chipset (fairly) then it will be around for quite a while still yet, so lots of new chips on it aswell for when that chip you get now is outdated.

I know you said ebuyer asewll, but just a word of advice: There are lots of better shops in the UK. By better i mean cheaper item and shipping prices aswell as better selection.

For example, the PSU you chose, it will power the system easily, but you can get the VX550 (Still Corsair, but extra 30W ;)

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/550w-Corsair-VX-Series-PSU-ATX-PS-2-5-year-Warranty-see-specs

for £9 less, and Scan are very very good, in so much as huge selection, fast and cheap delivery and great customer service, i know that from shopping over the internet and going to the shop itself (Bolton isn't far from me).

Overclockers is also a very good stie

www.overclockers.co.uk

It is aimed more towards enthusiasts, but they still have a wide selection of mid end system stuff and have quick delivery, wide range, cheap items and good support.

If you want to use ebuyer that is cool, but there are other, better options out there ;)

that is a pretty sweet barebone system :D

have you checked that you can't get similar or better for cheaper from a different bundle or buying components seperately either from OCUK or from scan?

No not yet. Just a quick question, if i buy this (im just about to), is it going to be a problem in terms of stability, the fact that its overclocked? I'd rather not upgrade again for a couple of years, and it this system lasts me, i'll be pleased. What dya reckon?

Well a 3.2GHz quad system will last for a good few years yet, and with it overclocked to 3.8, it will last even longer because the performance will stay above and equal to normal for longer.

As far as stability goes, the guys at OCUK have their jobs for a reason:because they are good at it, they OC it, get it stable, stress test it, get it deffinately stable and cool enough before they even think of shipping it, so it will be perfectly stable

Brilliant, nice one mate :)

I've never dabbled in the overclocking world so im completely clueless!!

Another question, i'll definitely get windows 7 with all this, it might seem like a daft question, but is Vista a requirement for windows 7? According to play.com it is....

Is it a requirement? do you mean like you have to buy a copy of vista then buy another copy of 7?

No, you can do a fresh install of windows 7. Its comes out 6 DAYSS WOOT im excited~!!:D

Nice :D

Play.com misleading me! Cheers man! Just bagged all this stuff, cant wait!!

i just looked at play, their win 7 are upgrades, aswell as just win 7. You can upgrade Vista with win 7 (apparently) without uninstalling vista, because 7 is really just vista with less bells and whistles, so when they say vista is a requirement, they mean for upgrading, not for installing in the first place :)
