New Build - What Now?

Hi all, just joined, first post. I'm fairly knowledgeable and hope to be able to contribute as much as possible to this awesome site.

So anyway, I have parts coming for a new Desktop for all purpose use and gaming, but I have a little bit of money left over plus some rebates, and I'm not sure what to spend it on so I figured I'd ask what you guys think.

Here's my build (I built around the dragon platform and plan to overclock a little):

Case - Apevia X-Cruiser
MOBO - ASUS M4A79T Delux AM3 DR3 790FX Chipset
GFX - Radeon HD 4890
CPU - AMD Phenom II 955 Black Edition 3.2ghz
RAM - mushkin 4gb (2x2gb) DDR3 1600
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB 7200RPM
Gaming mouse, keyboard, headset
21.5" Asus Monitor
and a few other little things

Right now I'm thinking either some heavy duty cooling, bluray drive, 4 more gb of ram, another hdd to put into raid 0, or another GFX card to put into crossfire. Thanks in advance.

Me personnaly, I would put it into cooling for the processor. You stated you plan to OC a little...extra cooling will be needed. You will end up buying it anyway I can almost garentee you:) Might as well just have it and install it right off the bat;)

The Dark Knight has some amazing reviews and people really like it.

The only issue would be the case size...I would double check the case size and the cooler size.

As far as an extra 4GB of RAM...it is not really needed and will give you only very marginal performance gains.

Oh, I'm really liking that cooler. I'll have to measure everything when I assemble it before I buy. I plan on doing some virtual OSs so I figured I'd might need the RAM there, I'll just wait and see. I'm mostly looking at another one of the same hard drives, or another GFX card just like it. Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated.

It's not so much the games I play now (since my last build was almost 5 years ago) it's the games I will play. Age of Conan and Crysis for now and I'm anticipating Diablo III, Starcraft II, and Star Wars the Old Republic. I want this box to get me through college and hopefully a few more years after that... so like 5 or 6 years still being able to play/run anything that comes out during that time smoothly.

That will be a goal you will not acheive:( In 5 or 6 years a Crossfire 4890 set up will play games but I assume not that well. 4 1/2 years ago I bought my 7900GT and that was top of the line...people were going nuts over this card:eek: Now look what it can do...not alot. It still runs fine...just like the day I bought it. It's in my daughters computer now.

I am planning a budget build for her 13th birthday with a modded XION case painted primer gray and purple LEDs and cathodes. Going to spend about $600 total...the 7900GT stays! I love that card:)

I would recomend just using one 4890 for now...in like 12 months or 18 months...get another top end card. I think you'll be much better off running a single top end card and updating it every year and a half:D The 4890 will play those games just fine;)

It should be achievable. My current build (the 5yr old one) can still play newer games like Age of Conan and Crysis (not so much this one) with decent framerates on "mud" settings. I do plan on upgrading a bit during that time frame thought. Thanks for all the advice, definitely made a good first impression on members of this site.
