ok i just got my new parts today, asus m28-n socket am2,x2 6000, x2900xt, 2 gigs of ram, thermaltake 600w hdd

ok so i finally got it all built (had to switch it in current case)

it didnt post or anything, so i unhooked the front usb, it booted.

i reset and got into the bios and set to boot from cd, i hit save settings and rebooted, now it wont come back.

ive tried unhooking everything, reseting the bios with the jumper, dif. psu, im running out of ideas i get no beeps and no post or anything after that, it was working i mean, i dont see how anything bad could have happened then

please help! im desperate

Check to make sure all your brass stubs are place right and be sure the motherboard is not touching the case, there could be a small short somewere. Start with the simple things first, does the motherboard have a onboard power switch? if so try that

When switching a supply here recently for a larger model the current build here suddenly saw nothing. Finally the repeat feeling to unplug and ever so lightly(best way to express that) press the 12v cpu plug back in until the plastic retainer clip clciked saw the whole system come to life. Apparently a loose contact in the molex ecplained that one.

But it's a thought that a loose contact inside a connector is likely unless you left the cmos jumper pin on the second and forgot to put that back on the default pair of pins? Simply removing the battery, wiaiting 30seconds and putting that back in seems to work well for most boards for clearing the cmos. These are the first two things before assuming hardware there.

yep, ive tested my gpu and my motherboard without all the plugs in, and the gpu frieks out, and the motherboard shuts off after like 2 secs, so thats working correctly

Does the power light come on? If so, do you hear any sounds at all? ie. beeps..etc.? What kinda memory do you have? Did you apply the thermal paste on the CPU correctly? Too little or too much can cause the system boot failure. Check and make sure all fans are running. Check and make sure you have the memory modules in the right DiMM slots. Usually on ASUS boards you need to place the RAM's in the same color slots.

If none of those work, unplug the power supply, press the power button on the front a few times, remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for 3 minutes then pop it back in. Remove 1 memory module, keep 1 in the 1st slot closest to the CPU. Plug in the power supply, wait for 10~15sec then turn it on. Manually set the memory speed, timings and voltage in BIOS.

are u running 2 sticks of ram , trying taking one out and just run it with one , who knows, could work

im trying what crimsonite said, gonna see what happens. i have tried both memory modules seperate also

nothing, any other ideas, ive even tried rebuilding on a static bag (but some of the screws wont come off (could that be a problem?)

Screws won't come off which component? The mobo? If so, yes it can cause short. Never tighten screws to mobo's, just a tad enough so it doesn't come loose and "wobble" in the case.

So does it power on? What kinda video card do you have?

Do you have a compressed air-duster? Spray the screws a couple of times, make sure you use the spray straw so the spray is more concentrated on point. And it's recommended to use a powered screwdriver that has a non-magnetic tip.

i used a non magnetic strip.so ive cheked and made sure theres no interuption i dont think thats it. i mean if i take my cpu and ram out shouldnt i get beeps?

Yeah it could be if you have screwed the screws too tight to the brass spacers, that could very well cause it to not operate right...

eh maybe, i always do it this way though, ive built like 10+ computers probly, this is the first one ive ever not have boot.

i called asus and the guy said i should take out the video card and the ram, reset the cmos, and boot if i dont get beeps than its probly the cpu, ima try that in a few

i put a bit of thermal paste on my cpu to, it kinda got messy, so ima clean that up to maybe that could be it :/

To much thermal paste wont cause that, the excess paste will just get pushed out. Realy the only way too much paste could cause it is if it got on the bottom of the cpu in the pins

well i guess i will try what the guy said and see if i get any beeps, ugh i wish it would just work, darn technology

omg it was a bad stick of ram and i think something with my processor but i got it going now, you guys are great thanks i love you ive been working on this for like 7 hours
