New build won't power on.

I just bought all the components for a PC and put them together. I triple checked all the connections, but It won't power on.

I think it may be either:

1.a busted power button

or

2.I inadvertantly fried an important component with static electricity.

I know the power supply is working, because when I hook it up to an AC source, makes a high pitched humming common in many electrical contraptions.

HELP!!!!!

Are you absultely positive the 24 or 20 pin connector is plugged into your motherboard. If the psu is not grounded it will not turn on.

I am sure the 24 pin connector is securely connected.

And I'm not sure if the psu is grounded or not, what do you mean by this?

This will tell me if your psu is bad. First of all make sure u screwed it in correctly and all conections are plugged in your psu. Then where you see the green an black wires to the 24 pin connector bend a paper clip and place it in there. This will trick your psu into being grounded. Be careful tho the clip will be conductive. here is a link if u do not understand what i am saying. http://aphnetworks.com/tutorials/psu_paperclip_trick Your psu light should come on and the fan should spin. either way come back tell me what happens

If the switch is broken, follow the two switch wires to the motherboard, where ya plugged it in. Short the 2 pins with a screwdrive or some metal object. If the switch is indeed broken then it should power on.
